Identity thief Michael Mills officially passed his audition for stupid criminal tricks.  His potential prize is seventeen years in jail and a $750,000 fine.  While it’s doubtful he’ll get the full sentence, Mills has demonstrated he’s both dangerous enough and a big enough moron to deserve the maximum sentence and much more.

As reported by WTKR News Channel 3:

Mills, a registered sex offender and felon, came to the attention of the Chesapeake Police Department and the United States Postal Inspection Service in August 2008 when Chesapeake authorities received reports about someone stealing mail from numerous mailboxes in the Blackwater and King James Colony sections of the city of Chesapeake.

The joint investigation revealed that Mills stole mail and burglarized at least one residence in search of identity and banking information, credit card convenience checks, and blank checks mailed by financial institutions to customers. Mills then used the stolen information to create a series of fake identifications bearing his photograph and the identity information of his crime victims. He then forged and cashed numerous stolen checks at banks throughout Hampton Roads.

But, here’s where Mills really showed the stuff he’s made of – which is to say he isn’t made of much gray matter between the ears.

On September 9, Mills led Chesapeake Police officers on a high speed vehicle chase down Military Highway, when they attempted to make a traffic stop to arrest him. Rather than stopping at the Gilmerton Bridge, which was open to allow boat traffic to pass, Mills attempted to jump the bridge as it began to close back together, but failed and crashed his vehicle into the water below. A later search of the primary vehicle driven by Mills led to the recovery of numerous pieces of stolen U.S. mail, stolen checks, fake identifications made by Mills, and a .38 Smith & Wesson revolver.

Actually, seventeen years in prison is far too short for this dangerous idiot.
