Avoiding Identity Theft at the Register

CreditCards.com has an excellent article this morning reminding consumers of 5 points they should keep in mind when paying in-person by credit card.

The 5 points are:

  1. Pay at the register.
  2. Get your credit card back quickly.
  3. Look for security cameras.
  4. Beware of tip fraud.
  5. Check for skimming at ATM and PIN entry terminals.

While two or three of the above points may be familiar to most consumers, several may not be.

Many consumers are not in the habit of looking for security cameras near registers and rarely think about tip fraud. Most importantly, skimming devices are on the rise and everyone needs to be careful when using ATM or PIN entry terminals. Most importantly, never let your credit card out of sight when conducting any type of transaction.

For an explanation about why all five of these points are important, see the full article 5 Steps To Avoid Identity Theft at the Register.
